Distributed Project Management

by Dr Neil Miller 30. December 2008 18:06
There is an urgent need for distributed project management web software to help project managers and people doing the projects to get projects done.   In traditional project management, the project manager is central and personally manages the project.  So project management software focuses on the needs of project managers, not the needs of people doing the projects.   Interactions with people doing project work occur through meetings, reports, visits, and other communications.  Recently a number of project management software vendors have provid... Eliminating the greatest weakness of Project Management

by Dr Neil Miller 29. December 2008 18:07
Traditional project management methods are designed for and provide significant assistance to project managers.  But projects are done by more people than the project manager and people usually have to do other work that is not directly related to a particular project.  There is an urgent need for a solution that helps people to work together to complete many projects and tasks. Projects have three broad phases:  planning, implementing and closing.  Traditional project management methods and software largely focus on developing an effective plan for the project manage... Get Important Work Done

by Dr Neil Miller 9. December 2008 18:08
The pain of not getting important work done is much greater than for other work.  Important work that must be done includes: safety, compliance, meeting project deadlines, implementing changes and strategic imperatives, developing new products, and other tasks where your credibility will suffer.   In today's workplaces, most people are overwhelmed, so they do as much work as they can.  The problem is that all work doesn't make an equal contribution to results.  Important work usually requires specific, timely, coordinated contributions from many people. ... Get Work Done

by Dr Neil Miller 5. December 2008 18:09
We do work to get our tasks done.  Usually we need to work with other people to complete work.  When our work is synchronized with the work other team members are doing our work flows easily with minimal interruptions. So work management needs to make it easy to synchronize our work with the work of other team members.  But synchronizing work takes a lot of time and effort and causes a lot of stress.   In the ideal world, this synchronization would be automatically done in the background, without us having to do anything except do our wo... by Dr Neil Miller 4. December 2008 18:11
In the workplace, most people find that interruptions to their work flow waste a lot of their time.  When you can keep your work flowing without unnecessary interruptions, your work gets done better and faster.  A lot of these interruptions, such as telephone calls, meetings, ad hoc emails, and instant messages can be significantly reduced.  Some of these interruptions come from poor work processes and some from other people.  But why do these interruptions occur? Most interruptions come from you and other people wanting to know what is happening, what has happe... [More]

Why Me2Team?

by Dr Neil Miller 3. December 2008 18:13
Many people ask why TASKey's work time management software is called Me2Team.    The software was developed to answer the request "Just tell Me what I need to do for everything I am involved in".  However in a work situation, people usually need to work together to get work done.   When people work together on a task, they create a formal or virtual Team.  Each person is affected by what other team members do.  Hence the name Me2Team.  More information can be found at: www.taskey.com for enterprise users and www.Me2Team.com fo... Navigating through Work and People

by Dr Neil Miller 3. December 2008 18:12
In the workplace, working out what to do when is not an easy task.  There is usually a lot to do: many goals to achieve, requiring a lot of things that need to be done by many people, in a changing situation.    Most task are relatively easy to plan and do in isolation, but contributing to many tasks at the same time creates considerable stress for most people.  Keeping track of who is doing what when and reporting progress adds more stress.  Physical separation and different time zones usually adds even more stress.   To work out how to...
